Why is this important?
Because quality leather is extremely
durable and lasts a long, long time!

Leather and saddles produced in the European union are subject to strict quality controls, and are also under the jurisdiction of European labor laws, which insures that there is no child labor used in production and that workers receive proper pay, benefits and protection. Also, Trekker uses leather that has been tanned in such a way that it meets the guidelines of being labeled
"Ecologically Friendly".
The most common form of tanning uses a chrome based process which, while very economical, has been associated with great health and environmental risks. Trekker leather is processed using an environmentally approved vegetable based tanning method.

It is also worthy to note that the words "Imported from Europe" or "Imported from Germany" do not insure the same quality of product as those that are actually produced in Europe. Many saddle companies use the term "Imported from Europe", when in fact their saddles are not produced in Europe at all, but are instead manufactured in a third world country, then imported to Europe, then exported out of Europe.
